In 2017, 7 million households spent more than 50 percent of their income on rent and people of color are disproportionately impacted. With no financial cushion, these families are living on the brink of homelessness. One medical emergency or a missed paycheck could mean the difference between having a home and losing it.

Drawing on lessons from our earlier work, as well as larger national discussions highlighting the benefits of guaranteed basic incomes, debt reduction, access to credit and equitable paths to homeownership, the Trust is beginning to explore the topics of income and assets. Our goal is to reduce the racial wealth gap and the number of struggling Black, Indigenous and Latino/a/x households in America.
